Lent at HUMC
The Season of Lent
The Season of Lent is a special time dedicated to deeper spiritual growth and reflection as we focus especially on Jesus' self-giving life and death. These 40 days before Easter (not including Sundays because they are “little Easters”) begin on Ash Wednesday and continue through Holy Week, when we remember the final week of Jesus' life and his death on the cross. During Lent, Hephzibah United Methodist Church is offering several opportunities to experience the richness of this spiritual season. All people in the community are invited to attend these activities and services.
Ash Wednesday Service
February 17, 2010 @ 7:00 pm
Ash Wednesday, February 17th, is the beginning of the Church season called "Lent," the weeks leading up to Easter. Traditionally, this is a season for deeper spiritual reflection and growth as we focus especially on Jesus' self-giving life and death. The service is designed to send us into the season with a sense of our need for God and of the gift of God's means of grace.
Maundy Thursday
April 1, 2010 @ 7:00 pm
“Maundy Thursday” is the holy day that we commemorate the “Last Supper” that Jesus celebrated with his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion. It is also when we remember Jesus' “new commandment” that we love one another. This begins the three holiest days on the Christian calendar, the Triduum.
Good Friday
April 2, 2010 @ 7:00 pm
The Good Friday service will begin at 7:00 pm. This is the evening we remember Jesus’ trial and crucifixion—the expression of Jesus' divine love for the world. This quiet, prayerful service begins and ends in meditative silence.
